The family of Naftali Kinuthia the main suspect in the murder of Ivy Wangechi has expressed worries that their son may not survive.
Kinuthia is set to undergo head surgery following serious injuries he sustained when members of the public descended on him immediately he hacked Wangechi to death.
The family is also complaining that medics at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital where the victim was an intern are reluctant and offering lukewarm attention to Kinuthia.
They have requested that if possible their son be transferred to a private hospital.
Kinuthia while speaking to investigators from his hospital bed narrated to police on circumstances that led to his anger that made him hack the lady to death.
He told Eldoret East DCI boss, Ali Kingi that he used to send the woman some money and on the fateful date sent her money for birthday party upon her request only to ignore his calls later.
“That is what prompted him to travel [from Thika] to Eldoret. He said he wanted to know why she was ignoring him,” the police boss said.
Kingi says that “when he [Kinuthia] arrived in Eldoret [Monday], the woman continued to decline to pick his calls. He said it got to a point where she switched off her phone. According to him, that angered him prompting him to look for an axe and kill the girl.”
Kinuthia has also poured his heart out on how his love had turned into a tormentor which left his ego badly bruised.
“He said it wasn’t his first time coming to Eldoret, and that he used to visit her often in the past. He said he visited her last Friday, and their meeting was brief. According to him, the girl told him that she was going to her residential place to take off her professional attire. She told him she would be back. However, upon reaching her residential place, the woman switched off her phone, effectively blocking her planned meeting with him,” added police boss.
Police have also revealed that Kinuthia bought the axe and knife in Eldoret before returning to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital to waylay the deceased.
