Sportpesa Links Emerge in Murder of Moi University Student

Ivy Wangeci, a sixth year-medicine student was hacked to death by her boyfriend who attacked her with an axe within the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital

Naftali Kinuthia, the man who murdered his girlfriend in Eldoret on Tuesday allegedly worked for giant betting company Sportpesa.

Naftali drove from Thika to Eldoret on Tuesday, parked his car near the Moi Referral Hospital, before taking a motorbike to town where he bought an axe and a knife.

He used the axe to hack Ivy Wangeci, a 6th year Medical student at Moi University, before slaughtering her with the knife in the most macabre murder in recent times.

A daily publication revealed that the man worked for a local betting firm but did not reveal which one.

Later, stories from the mainstream media said that Kinuthia worked in an MPESA shop in Thika.

But blogger Robert Alai has said that the man actually worked at Sportpesa as an IT expert.

Alai further claimed that the mainstream media has been warned against dragging Sportpesa in the murder story or they will be denied Adverts by Safaricom.

Safaricom is one of Sportpesa’s biggest business partners since most gamblers use MPESA to place their bets.

It is difficult to know for sure if Alai is lying or not. He is one of Sportpesa’s biggest critics and may be using this to get at them.
