As conversations around the brutal daylight murder of Moi University student Ivy Wangeci continue, Kenyans have been left to wonder what her family is going through.
The 6th year Medical Student at Moi University was hacked to death by her boyfriend in the most macabre way on Tuesday.
Ivy came from Thika, the same place as her killer Naftali Kinuthia. The couple had been dating for a very long time even before she joined college.
The family says it was shocked when they got news of the murder on social media.
And imagine, social media was awash with fake stories that Ivy had been killed after infecting her boyfriend with HIV AIDs, which is further from the truth.
In Thika, friends thronged Ivy’s home to condole with the family at this trying moment.
The family has not released an official statement, but Dr. Lukoye Atwoli, the Dean in the Faculty of Medicine at Moi University, has asked social media to stop spreading rumors.
“I will like to tell people who are writing and sharing these lies about her to stop. We are urging people to be sensitive to her family, her friends and those close to her.”
We hope Kenyans will heed this call.
