Nancy Kinuthia, mother to Naftali Kinuthia, the man accused of killing Moi University student Ivy Wangechi, has revealed her son was always calm and she is surprised that he was behind the heinous act.

She added that Kinuthia’s father is still in disbelief but revealed that Wangechi and her son were in a relationship before.
“I have never had a problem with him and I was shocked to hear that he did that. He is a calm person and you would not expect such news.

“I even told his father and he still cannot believe that it is Njahi who did this,” she said in an interview with KTN News.

She further stated that she had not met the deceased but Kinuthia often showed her photos.

“Recently he came to me saying they had parted ways, a move which I told him was in the right direction because of their relationship issues,” said Kinuthia’s mum.

According to eyewitnesses, Wangechi was attacked by Naftali outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital at around 10am on Tuesday.

She had just completed her ward rounds and left the facility in the company of her colleagues when the assailant accosted her from behind and hit her with an axe.

Naftali attempted to flee after the incident but was chased down by students and bodaboda operators who pelted him with stones before police rescued him.

He is currently receiving treatment and will help police with investigations into the matter.
