Ken Okoth and Popular Kenyans who were ‘Killed’ by KOT

The rumours on the alleged death of ailing Kibra MP, Ken Okoth has brought into sharp focus the habit of Kenyans of spreading unfounded stories about local celebrities.

The story that was reported by a Roads Alert Twitter User was to be picked by Jubilee blogger, Polycarp Hinga, and it spread.

Like bush fire, the whole of Twitter in Kenya was on the hot topic, with the gullible populace being quick to type their not-so-well-thought-out RIPs.

While the Kibra MP did take much time before he could personally respond to the wild rumours, the Mainstream Media preferred staying mum on the topic.

MP Ken Okoth was to later respond, making Kenyans sigh with relief.

Earlier this year, the once-built MP shared shocking photos of his recuperation.

In the photos, Mr Okoth admitted the Chemotherapy drugs were taking a toll on him, and he was visibly frail and thin.

The same year, a blogger took to Social Media to announce the ‘death’ of now Starehe Member of Parliament, Charles Kanyi Njagua.

The blogger was to share grisly images of the accident scene with a blood-stained wreckage as ‘evidence.’

The comedian was to later give an update on the allegations. This was his response.

“Let me start by apologising to all who may have been adversely affected by the rumours going round that I died after being involved in a car accident. I would like to assure you that I am alive and well, going about my work. Kindly ignore any texts messages doing round suggesting the same,” the MP addressed a Press Conference.

Other Celebrities to suffer the same fate are Xtian Dela, a popular blogger, who woke up to the sad news of his ‘death’.

While he noted that the news was not funny, he did not ask for investigations into the rumours unlike Jaguar at the time.
