Most Kenyans are still wondering how Johnson Sakaja has grown to become one of the most influential politicians in Nairobi. As much as I would wish to answer that question, I bet there are some things you still don’t know about Sakaja up to now.
Johnson Sakaja was born on February 2, 1985 in Nairobi, in the then government quarters in Parklands as the last born in a family of three.
Back in Primary school, Sakaja was an award-winning debater. He won the Unicef International Children’s Debate when he was a pupil at Aga Khan Primary School in Nairobi. He attended Lenana School where he used to play the guitar as part of a gospel band called Mission Driven.
Sakaja could have joined Harvard University after completing his High School education, but lack of school fees saw him admitted at University of Nairobi. He pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Acturial Science at University of Nairobi, and was the vice-chair of the Actuarial Students Association and later SONU.
Sakaja got involved in National politics at a young age of 20. He was involved in the 2005 referendum as well as playing a role in the re-election of President Mwai Kibaki two years later.
The Top Senator worked with President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Ministry of Finance, something that shaped his political career up to now.
Eight: Sakaja is a family man. He has one wife and two sons aged two and three years.
Sakaja won two awards in 2016 – African Achievers Award Changemaker of the Year 2016 and Jacob Well Award 2016 (Men Impacting Differently)
