How Moi univ murder suspect arrived from Thika before killing woman

Detectives from the director of criminal investigations have commenced investigations following the brutal killing of Ms. Ivy Wangechi-a sixth year Medical student at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The suspect; 28-year-old Naftali Njahi Kinuthia was arrested after he allegedly hacked to death the medical student at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in broad daylight.

It is alleged that the suspect had initially travelled from Thika and parked his vehicle next to the institution main entrance before going to town using a motorcycle where he bought the knife and axe. He then concealed them inside a sack and headed back to MTRH to wait for the student.

The student who didnt know the fate awaiting her was doing her practicals at the hospital when she was attacked near the accident and emergency wing.

Eyewitnesses said the man hit the woman on the head with an axe and then cut her neck with a sword.

The attacker is said to have concealed the two weapons in a gunny bag when he gained entry into the hospital.

Police officers seized the Honda Civic vehicle under registration number KCB 836P and drove it to the police station for further investigations.
According to sources within the institution, the suspect gave them the key and told them information on the whereabouts of the vehicle.

Moi University Vice-Chancellor Professor Isaac Kosgey condoled with the students while asking them to be calm as police continue with investigations.“We have lost one of us who was attacked by an unknown individual outside the referral. We have already contacted the family.”

After the attack he tried fleeing the scene but was apprehended by members of the public.

The man, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was rescued by police from the mob that wanted to lynch him.

He has been admitted to the same hospital for injuries sustained from the mob attack.

Police have cordoned off the murder scene as hundreds of people milled around the area.

The motive of the attack has not yet been established.

The sixth-year student was set to graduate in December.
