De Bruyne is an asset to any team, however, even when he is not at his best and he will surely have a big part to play if City is to clinch footballing immortality by claiming an unprecedented quadruple.

The Belgian did manage to take some time off though to take part in BT Sport’s ‘Perfect Player’ series in which stars are asked to construct their perfect footballer out of different aspects and attributes of opponents and teammates games.

For leadership, De Bruyne looked no further than countryman Vincent Kompany.

“Leaders aren’t there in specific moments, they are there all the time,” De Bruyne said.

“I see what he does on and off the pitch for club and country. He does a magnificent job, he is probably one of the best leaders in the world.”

Interestingly, he then went for Christian Eriksen’s vision showing that, ahead of a month in which City are due to play Tottenham on three occasions, De Bruyne is a big admirer of the Dane.

“Very underrated in people’s minds, he creates a lot of chances for his team-mates. We are different, I am maybe sometimes more direct than him.”

The Belgian pass-master was the toast of the town last season, netting eight times and registering a staggering 16 assists.

Sadly though, this season has been blighted by injury preventing the midfield maestro from ever truly getting up to speed.

In fact, De Bruyne even admitted that his extended time on the sidelines has worn him out and he might not be at his best going into a helter-skelter final few weeks.

“I am pretty happy with it, it is one of my qualities to know where people are going to be,” he explained.

“I know with my playing style I need people to make runs deep. It is my duty to make sure my team-mates can score. I have to put them in the right position.”
