‘Start by finishing corruption on our roads’ Mutyambai’s warm welcome by KOT

The new Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai was on Monday officially sworn into office and this has had Kenyans online laying out their expectations.

Mutyambai takes after Jospeh Boinnet, who is said to have left a record on matters regarding police welfare as well as bridging the gap between civilians and the police force.

“Under the Police modernization programme, the National Police Service has invested heavily in providing the necessary tools and equipment to enable our police officers discharge their duties effectively and to the expectations of Kenyans,” read a statement by Joseph Boinnet.

According to Boinnet, the government motor vehicle leasing programme tackled the issue of police mobility while Group Life Insurance cover as well as a Comprehensive Medical Scheme catered for the health of officers and their families.

Members of the public, Boinnet added, are now able to interact with police officers, offer suggestions and critique where necessary through events such as the National Police Colleges Open Days as well as the National Police Service Week that he began.

Mutyambai is similarly expected to take up the baton and actually live by the National Police Service slogan, ‘Utumishi kwa wote’ (service to all).

“Start by finishing corruption on our roads. Salaried officers should not continue waking up every morning just to go and collect money on our roads,” remarked one Mwangi Kariuki on Twitter.
