Ugandan authorities have announced the release of an American woman who was abducted at the Queen Elizabeth National Park.

This comes after the kidnappers demanded a ransom of $500,000 for her release. Whether this was given in exchange for the woman 35-year-old Kimberley Sue Endecott and her Ugandan driver’s freedom was not revealed.

After Ugandan Spokesman Ofwono Opondo broke the news of the release, President Donald Trump too weighed in saying, “Pleased to report that the American tourist and tour guide that were abducted in Uganda have been released.”

The government spokesman added that the US citizen was handed over to the US embassy in Uganda unharmed.

Albeit the gunmen’s identity is unclear, the area where the abduction took place was once roamed by fighters belonging to an anti-Kampala rebel group, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), which is now mostly dormant. The group is still believed to have camps in eastern Congo- Reuters reports.
