Mother’s accusation leads to son’s suicide

Suicide cases have been on the rise in the recent past especially among the young people causing an alarm in the society.

A 13-year old boy has committed suicide after his mother accused him of stealing rice.

The standard seven pupil is reported to have hung himself using a rope in his uncle’s house.

Speaking on the unfortunate incident that happened in Rurii Village, Mwea West in Kirinyaga County, Wamumu chief Godfrey Mithamo, confirmed the death, expressing disappointment over the happenings.

According to the boy’s aunt, Sylvia Wangui, the boy had been warned by the mother against following a certain group of boys in their area.

It is claimed that the boys had been accused of stealing villagers’ rice from their homes.

Ms. Wangui also noted that the boy had been castigated by the mother over ‘poor performance.’

The boy reportedly lived with his uncle David Njogu in a rented house – where he committed the act – about 500 meters from his mother’s house.

His uncle, Njogu, exclaimed over the happenings, stating that he had just left the boy sleeping only to come and find him dead.

The unnamed child’s body has been moved to Kerugoya Referal Hospital mortuary pending postmortem.
