The newly sworn-in Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai has sated a few issues he will be dealing with as the new Police boss. In his speech, the new police boss issued a stern warning to the police against violating human rights in their line of duty.

Speaking on Monday after taking oath of office, Mutyambai affirmed his commitment in ensuring police respect human rights and fundamental freedom as stipulated in the constitution of Kenya.

I will endeavour to make sure that all police officers respect human rights and fundamental freedoms… but equally remind all of us that police officers have right which must be respected,” Mutyambai said.

“As I assume office as the new IG, I am conversant with the security threats our country still faces, especially terrorism, organized crime, corruption, cattle rustling among others,” he added.

Committed to fighting graft

The new police boss also reiterated his commitment on the ongoing war against corruption and asked Kenyans to join hands in the war against the vice.

Commenting on the changes at the police service, Mutyambai said that he will implement the information management system which digitizes the occurrence book and file management system.

This, according to the new IG will enable members of the public to track the progress of their complaints and be able to give feedback.

IG Mutyambai also stated that they will build new police stations and renovate the old ones to meet the policing standards and improve the working conditions of our officers.
