A new dawn has kicked in at the National Police Service as a new Inspector General was on Monday sworn in.

IG Hillary Nzioki Mutyambai took three different oaths of office, as administered by Judiciary Chief Registrar Anne Atieno Amadi at the Supreme Court of Kenya.

This came after his appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta, to replace outgoing Inspector General Joseph Boinnet, who has now been appointed as the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Tourism Ministry.

The incoming IG took three different oaths: the oath of office of the Inspector General of Police, oath of secrecy and oath of office as a commissioner of the National Police Service Commission.

Under the oath of office as IG, Mr Mutyambai pledged to be faithful and bear true allegiance to the President of the Republic of Kenya without fear or malice and to at all times do “my utmost duty to preserve peace and prevent offences, and discharge duties of the office faithfully.”

He on the oath of secrecy pledged, “I will not disclose or make known to any person any information acquired by me by reason of duties performed by me on behalf of or under National Police Service in light of the national police service act.”

On the other hand, the oath of office as a commissioner of the National Police Service Commission entailed a pledge to at all times uphold and respect the constitution without fear or favor.

“Under the National Police Service Commission Act 2011, do swear that I will at all times obey, respect and uphold the constitution of Kenya and all other laws abide to faithfully, fully and impartially adhere to discharge the powers and duties accorded to me by virtue of appointment without fear, favor, bias, affection or ill will or prejudice.”
