Babu Owino laments about Kenya’s failing health care system

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has raised concern over the state of Kenya’s healthcare system.

This comes after the passing of Madam Everline Namukhula, from Shisokhe village in Navakholo sub-county, Kakamega, who gave birth to quintuplets. The MP says that he was saddened by the news of her death.

Madam Everline died while undergoing treatment at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldridge. Babu Owino also added that was aware that she had lost two of her newborns just last week.

Babu Owino offered his condolences to the family and commited to supporting her family during this trying time.

The Vocal MP added that the era where giving birth was a death sentence for women should have been over a long time ago.

“It is deeply disappointing to see women dying from pregnancy-related complications in 2019!” he stated

Babu Owino highlighted that although President Kenyatta has declared universal healthcare one of his Big Four Agenda Items, the National Government and Counties do not seem to be doing everything possible to make this a reality.

He also urged the health care providers to take a keen look at how health services are delivered to wananchi with a view to saving lives.

The Embakasi East MP also shared his intention to raise this question on the floor of the House and will not rest until Kenyans get the answers they are looking for.

OUR HEALTH SYSTEMS ARE FAILING KENYANS I have learnt with great sadness of the passing of Madam Everline Namukhula, from Shisokhe village in Navakholo sub-county, Kakamega, who gave birth to quintuplets. She died while undergoing treatment at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldridge. I am also made aware that she had lost two of her newborns just last week. I offer my profound condolences to her family and to the community of Kakamega county at large for this loss. I commit to support her family during this trying time. We will do our best to ensure her surviving children are looked after. The era where giving birth was death sentence for women should have been over a long time ago. It is deeply disappointing to see women dying from pregnancy related complications in 2019! President Uhuru Kenyatta has declared universal healthcare one of his Big Four Agenda Items. But are the National Government and Counties doing everything possible to make this a reality? No! We must take a keen look at how health services are delivered to wananchi with a view to saving lives. I intend to raise this question on the floor of the House and I will not rest until Kenyans get the answers they are looking for. Comrade Babu Owino, MP, Embakasi East and Leader, Youth For Africa Movement.
