Babu acts on Kakamega mother’s death-bed request

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has vowed to support the children belonging to Evelyn Namukhula after her sudden death on Sunday 7 April.

In a Facebook post titled ‘Our health systems are failing Kenyans’, the legislator addressed the issue of women dying after giving birth due to improper health systems.

“The era where giving birth was a death sentence for women should have been over a long time ago. It is deeply disappointing to see women dying from pregnancy-related complications in 2019!” read part of the statement

Among the five babies, two died (the boys) after they were taken into the hospital and put in an incubator. The exact cause of death is yet to be determined.

In her first pregnancy, Namukhula gave birth to twin boys, now five and two years later she had twin girls now three years.

According to the hospital officials, Evelyn complained of chest pains which led to her death. The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Wilson Aruasa said she was put on antibiotics upon suspecting that she had a blood clot. Evelyn’s brother, Moses Nyongesa Mapesa, says the deceased looked well that Sunday morning before chest complains began.

“She woke up looking well in the morning and after taking porridge, she started complaining of chest pains. She was taken to the lab for tests, but died before the tests could be done,” said Mapesa.
