Why Oburu Odinga wants Raila to call off handshake deal

East African Legislative Assembly MPĀ Oburu Odinga who is also an elder brother to ODM leader Raila Odinga now wants the ODM supremo to withdraw his support for the handshake if Uhuru is unable to tame corruption.

According to local media reports, Oburu explained that Raila would soil his stance against corruption if he continued to support the Jubilee administration.

According to him, Uhuru has not been effective in the fight against corruption and this does not augur well with Raila.

“The corruption war should be sustained and if there are any signs of reluctance to continue with the war on graft when it was the cardinal principles of the handshake then I do not think he (Raila) should be comfortable staying in the arrangement,” Oburu stated.

He, however, disclosed that he was not aware whether Raila was planning to back out his deal with the president.

“I do not know if he has such thinking. I have not consulted him. He is the one who did the handshake and he is the only one who can consider withdrawing,” he added.

Oburu went on to explain that he could not force Raila to reconsider his working relationship with Uhuru.

“I can only advise him but if he refuses, it’s up to him. But he needs to be careful with his image,” Oburu explained.

He stated that Raila should not stay in an environment where corruption was condoned.
