Gylfi Sigurdsson Reveals Why Everton Can Cause An Upset to Arsenal

Arsenal news: Gylfi Sigurdsson reveals why Everton can cause an upset | Football | Sport

Sigurdsson is confident ahead of the clash against the Gunners as Everton come into the game off the back of two straight wins.

The Toffees have also managed to keep four clean sheets in their past five matches and Sigurdsson hope a good result will help Everton push up the table.

The 29-year-old admits it won’t be an easy task facing Arsenal who are looking to secure a Champions League qualifying spot but feels Everton can build some momentum if they can take something away from the game.

“Confidence makes a big difference,” Sigurdsson said.

“It’s so important in this league as back-to-back wins gives you momentum.

“Arsenal are on a very good run. They are going for the top four so every game for them is crucial but if we can build on the last couple of performances, get something out of the game, then hopefully we can finish the season strongly.”

Arsenal go into the game in fourth, one point behind rivals Tottenham in third, but with a game in hand.

Everton are currently 10th in the table but are only four points off Leicester who sit in 7th.

Sigurdsson admits Everton’s season has been hindered by the side’s inconsistent performances be believes a good result could be the catalyst to finishing the season strongly.

“We’ve been talking about consistency,” he said.

“We do get good results against good teams but we need to back it up and make sure these results count.

“We’ve got another tough game on Sunday so if we get another good result we can really look forward to pushing for those places above us.”

Everton boss Marco Silva believes the key to finding success against Arsenal is maintaining the correct balance between attacking and defending.

“The idea and model we are building is to play offensive football,” Silva said.

“But no-one can play well, and play offensive football, if you are not a solid team, because you cannot attack in the right way if you do not have the right balance.

“We have got four clean sheets in our past five matches and we are happy with that.

“But it is up to us to work more and more and to achieve more good results. We will aim to be consistent, solid and try to get another clean sheet.

“It is our aim to maintain our standards because we have that quality. We have to keep that focus, desire and put that on the pitch consistently. We have to demand that from ourselves

“And after, if we have a good day, we can win against every team in the Premier League.”
