Murang’a University of Technology (MUT) and a local primary school administrations have engaged in a fit of land disputes.

The primary school claims that the varsity is plotting to fence of its land.

The row surfaced after Vice Chancellor Dickson Nyariki, in a letter dated March 18, notified the primary school head teacher Beatrice Wachira that construction of a perimeter wall would proceed on the disputed land, “for the common of the two institutions.”

“The varsity is implementing fencing project in order to enhance security of the university community, in line with the Government directive to secure learning institutions. We have an obligation to fence a section occupied by the primary school for the common good of the two institutions,” the letter read in part.

Ms Wachira, however, criticised the varsity, saying NLC had ruled that the school should be allowed to acquire its title deed at the Murang’a Lands Registry.

“The varsity acquired its documents in 2002 but the management remained silent, until three years ago when the primary school embarked on the same process to comply with the law,” said Ms Wachira.

She added that the matter came into the open after the county government directed the primary school to get a no-objection note from the university during the process to acquire its title deed.
