Man Utd Had Three Luke Shaw Transfer Replacements Ready Before Mourinho’s Sacking

Manchester United star Shaw struggled during Mourinho’s time in charge, with the duo often failing to see eye to eye behind the scenes.

Mourinho thought the England international did not work hard enough and, throughout the majority of his two-and-a-half-year spell with the club, had him firmly down in his pecking order.

Instead, the former Manchester United manager would place his faith in the likes of Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young and Daley Blind.

Even Marcos Rojo, a centre-back by trade, was at one point ahead of him in the race to become the club’s first-choice left-back.

And the Manchester Evening News say United were eyeing three potential replacements for Shaw during Mourinho’s time in charge.

Danny Rose, Alex Sandro and Kieran Tierney were the trio supposedly in their sights.

Rose reached his peak for Tottenham a year ago and has often struggled to make Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the time since.

The England international said in the summer of 2017 that he wanted to move back up north one day.

But that has not happened and Rose remains at Tottenham, though has publicly conceded that he has ‘five or six more years left in football.’

Sandro was admired by Chelsea when Antonio Conte took the job in 2016.

Yet the Samba star is still at Juventus and has helped the Serie A giants open up a mammoth lead at the top of the table.

Tierney, meanwhile, has enjoyed another fine season at Celtic.

And the Scotland international reportedly remains on the radar of Arsenal, who are keen to sign a long-term replacement for Nacho Monreal this summer.

Shaw, meanwhile, is now United’s undisputed No 1 left-back – while Mourinho is a thing of the past.

And the former Southampton star has now praised current Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after winning the club’s player of the month award for March.

“It’s hard to try and pinpoint anything that I’ve changed,” he said.

“I haven’t changed anything massively. I think it’s more down to confidence and enjoying myself again, a lot of which is down to the manager and the way he is with me.

“He’s helped me a lot since he’s come in and I think he’s helped a lot of other players as well.”
