Between Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo, who is greater? This debate can never end.
At this point, most football fans have decided which player they prefer. They have both been around for a considerable length of time and it will be hard to shift opinions now.
The general consensus is that those who appreciate a natural magician prefer Messi, while those who admire a hard worker choose Ronaldo.
Both players have entered their thirties yet they are still playing at an incredible level. Messi has scored 32 goals for Barcelona in La Liga and is leading the race to win the European Golden Shoe, while Ronaldo has scored 19 goals in 26 Serie A appearances for Juventus.
It’s easy to wonder whether football will ever witness a rivalry between two players of such talents ever again; indeed, we’re yet to see a single player come close to their level.
The debate as to which player is better has raged on for years and the fact that both have five Ballon d’Or awards to their name doesn’t help to decide it.
Maybe a showdown between Messi and Ronaldo in the Champions League final this year could help to settle the argument.
Many players past and present have a preference but in the case of former Real Madrid midfielder Guti, he is split.
The Spaniard, who is now serving as the assistant coach at Besiktas, believes Messi has more talent but Ronaldo has more ambition.
“Both,” Guti said when asked by Marca to choose between the pair.
“It is true that I recently tweeted that I chose Messi, but I value highly what Cristiano has done. He is a great player.
