Students a worried lot as another comrade is brutally killed near institution

Students of Kirinyaga University were left worried after one of them was Wednesday evening stabbed to death by unknown assailants a few metres away from the campus while in the company of two other colleagues.

According to reports, the second year student was heading to the hostel from the university at around 9pm when they were attacked by three men near Thiba River at Kutus Trading Centre.

The unknown thugs escaped after stabbing the Second Year student and robbing them of their phones.

The victim was pronounced dead at Kutus Health Centre where he was taken by other students.

Confirming the incident, Mwea East OCPD Dorothy Gaitenga said police have launched investigations into the incident.

The incident prompted students at the university to hold demonstrations late into the night, as they lamented of insecurity in the area. Relative calm has however resumed at the institution.

In other news in the same county, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations confiscated more than 1,000 bags of suspected contraband white rice in Kirinyaga County, Mwea East.

The police believe the rice originated from Pakistan after the Wednesday night operation.

The rice is under police custody as officers continue with investigations.

Last year, Kenyans were left a worried lot following reports that plastic rice from China is on sale in local shops and supermarkets.

Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) came out guns blazing saying they had put all the pulls and stop, to ensure there is no plastic rice in our homes.
