Oktay promises more as Gor Mahia prepare for RSB Berkane

Gor Mahia head coach Hassan Oktay has promised fans and stakeholders better performance in all competitions going forward.

He says he has instilled extraordinary principles to his players with the aim of seeing K’Ogalo at the top.

Since his appointment in December 2018, the Turkish-Cypriot has steered the club to the top of the SportPesa Premier League after 19 matches.

Gor Mahia have also continued with their beautiful run in the continental competitions; qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals for the first time in history.

And Oktay says they can only get better. “I told everyone that I have a unique philosophy, when I came to Kenya. Some people were a bit impatient with me in the beginning but I knew it would take time for everyone to agree with me. Right now, we’re on a good track and it can only get better,” he said.

He was speaking a day after beating Sony Sugar 3-2 in a league match played at Moi Stadium, Kisumu. But they literary came twice from behind to bag all the maximum points. Jacques Tuyisenge, Samuel Onyango and Nicholas Kipkirui were on scoreboard for K’Ogalo after Enock Agwanda and Joshua Otieno had put Sony Sugar in temporary lead.

He went ahead to explain what exactly worked for them, at a time when most K’Ogalo fans had started losing hopes.

“As a team, we’ve learnt to be patient and fight to the last minute of any game. That was our weapon,” he said, adding that, “I’ve also trained my players to be flexible in their positions, that’s why you could see a bit of reshuffling against Sony Sugar.”

Oktay believes that his team will upset Moroccan titans RSB Berkane in their first leg tie of Caf Confederation Cup to be played on Sunday 7.
