Is Maina Kamanda old enough to get ‘pesa ya wazee’?

Deputy President William Ruto has taken a subtle jibe at Jubilee nominated MP Maina Kamanda by singling him out as a potential beneficiary of funds meant for the elderly.

Ruto who was speaking at a fund raiser in Murang’a county on Wednesday, April 3, said the government was keen to enroll all the senior citizens including Kamanda to its cash transfer programme.

This was in response to the legislator’s recent comments that politicians opposed to graft war were those implicated in the scandals.

Kamanda is also a member of the ‘kieleweketeam opposed to Ruto’s presidential ambition in 2022.

“Unlike in the past, this time round we have decided as the government to take care of all elderly people in the cash transfer programme. Even the likes of Kamanda can be a beneficiary of the initiative,” he said sending the audience into thunderous laughter…

In an apparent reference to impeachment motion by Siaya Senator James Orengo, the DP noted there was a political scheme by unnamed politicians whose only interest was to cause disunity in the country.

“We know them and what they can do. When they are not breaking political parties, they are uprooting railway lines, and when they are not doing that, they are breeding discord between friends,” he added.

The motion, according to the Siaya senator, will be hinged on grounds of corruption allegations and claims of insubordination and sabotaging government efforts to weed out corrupt state officers.
