Ahmednasir makes ‘reckless’ statement and Kenyans are on his neck!

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has come under sharp criticism after he was seen to sympathize with a governor accused of corruption and theft of up to Sh2 billion.

In his tweet where he castigated the magistrate handling the case, Ahmednasir was bashed from all fronts even as some Twitter users saying he was just a disgruntled ambulance chaser.

The tweet came following the cash bail amount of Samburu governor, Moses Lenolkulal was set at Sh100 million.

The governor was also charged with four counts of abuse of office and conflict of interest leading to the loss of Sh84.6 million public funds.

Ahmednassir tagged the Law Society of Kenya in the tweet which read, “when a court of law sets bail at Ksh 100 million for Samburu Governor, it shows 2 things. 1.That the magistrates is plainly incompetent and must be removed from office or 2. He is playing to the public gallery and is thus not exercising decisional independence…@lawsocietykenya.”

The former Governor Kiambu County, William Kabogo, tweeted saying, “that is jailing before trial.”

This sentiment was echoed by Twitter user Dickinson, who said, “Yes he has shown his verdict before trial.”

In their response to Ahmednassir, some agreed with calling the magistrate incompetent.

Doug tweeted, “I agree with you. The magistrate is very incompetent to set bail at only 100M to a governor who stole Ksh 2B. The bail should have been Ksh 2B or more.”

“Missing money is 2b plus, if the judge wants to be competent he should have set a bail fee of 1.5b, then the rest of the money he can go to jail for it,” Bunthiery said.

Moturi agreed to say, “Very true. It’s a big joke to bail at such amount. Personally, I agree with the incompetence.”

Other users took a swipe at Ahmednassir saying that he was tweeting this for personal reasons.

Njoroge tweeted, “I am worried that you say “Magistrate must be removed from office” just because s/he set a bail amount too high for your next client reach.”

“So you didn’t get chance to officially represent him in court. You are now using unorthodox means to join the legal team. You are part of the system we need to get out. You are corrupt,” Rian said.

David tweeted saying, “Am pretty sure the judge didn’t break any law, he was just exercising his discretion…same way some judges give anticipatory bail of 50k for someone who has looted 100+ million. SC unless you are trying to rope in a client, this is one order that Kenyans are happy with for once!”

“Choose one Struggle SC, either support hasher bail terms for economic terrorists or forever hold your thoughts and align yourself with them,” Ebrahim said. ‏

Some Twitter users gave their point of view on what they think the courts should have done.

Kennedy tweeted, “I think the bail should always be set to twice the amount that was stolen. I recently [got] driven by an individual [that] said so long as [you] steal enough to afford bond then u can steal this country dry.”

Ahmednassir has previously come under fire for his views.

Just last month, he was issued with a warning following his disparaging remarks on how they handled the case against two Iranians convicted of terror charge, where he accused the court of behaving like headless chicken and lacking impartiality in the case.

Should Ahmednasir apologise to Kenyans after making the remarks.
