President Trump hosted a celebration at the White house Monday with ex-convicts who won early release under the First Step Act.

“Two months ago, I was in a prison cell. And I’m in the White House. That’s continuing to make America great again,” said Gregory Allen, one of five ex-cons introduced by the president at the event.

Also at the ceremony was Alice Marie Johnson, who had her sentence commuted by Trump after Kim Kardashian lobbied on her behalf.

“I want to thank our incredible President Donald John Trump,” Johnson said. “I also want to thank the media for being so kind to me.”

Trump signed the First Step Act in December.

More than 500 inmates have been released so far.

Trump marveled that the reform came together under a bipartisan coalition that was both “so conservative” and “so liberal.”

Trump said the law “rolls back provisions of the 1994 Clinton crime law that was so devastating to so many.”
