Arsenal is Actively Looking For Director of Football

Arsenal have been on the look for a new football director since Arsene Wenger move from the club.

It’s consensus belief that Arsenal are looking to implement a new structure to their recruitment strategy.

Previously Wenger had exerted full control in the transfer market. But the Gunners are thought to want to pass those duties onto a newly appointed director of football.

Sven Mislintat had been a key figure in Arsenal’s recruitment plans before he left the club a few months ago.

Since Mislintat’s exit, a raft of names have been linked with the Gunners. Those names have including Monchi, who has since rejoined Sevilla, and Marc Overmars, who has since agreed a new deal with Ajax.

On Tuesday French daily L’Equipe throw a new name into the ring: Marseille’s Andoni Zubizarreta.

The top-line news from L’Equipe is that Arsenal have approached Zubizarreta about filling their director of football role.

To be clear, Zubizarreta is the current OM sporting director.

Zubizarreta has previously also worked at Barcelona, following his superb career as a Spanish international goalie.

L’Equipe say that Raul Sanllehi is keen on Arsenal’s move for Zubizarreta, while Unai Emery is supportive of the move.

Sanllehi worked alongside Zubizarreta at the Camp Nou.

So how likely is the deal? Zubizarreta is reportedly frustrated with a lack of progress at Marseille while he’s tempted by the Arsenal project.

Yet, in reality there still seems like a lot of work for Arsenal to do before this deal gets over the line.
