Opposition: to end corruption, Ruto must be separated from public resources

Raila's ODM party maintains DP Ruto's impeachment plan is still on

The woes of Deputy President William Ruto will not just go away any time soon.

A section of politicians allied to Opposition Chief Raila Odinga maintained their plan to oust him will not be shelved.

The Opposition politicians led by the ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna insisted Ruto must be kicked out of office by all means possible with impeachment being one of the options currently on the table.

Speaking during a fund-raising event at Palakumi Secondary School in Kilifi county on March 29, Sifuna indicated they were after the DP because of his stand on corruption which he said had reached alarming level in the Jubilee administration.

According to the ODM leaders, Ruto must be moved as far away as possible from public resources and they (ODM leaders) will do everything within their power to eject the DP from the powerful position he currently holds.

Sifuna’s sentiments were echoed by Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch and his Kilifi South counterpart Ken Chonga who also dismissed claims by Ruto and his political allies that the ongoing war on graft is targeting a certain community and individuals.

Days earlier, Siaya senator James Orengo who is perceived to be one of ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s confidants stirred a political storm when he announced they were in the process of marshaling support to oust Ruto over alleged gross misconduct.

“We will push for his removal on grounds of gross misconduct.

The cutoff requirement to oust a DP according to the Constitution is lower than a criminal trial prosecution,” Orengo said.

In a rejoinder, Jubilee party leaders allied to Ruto fired back tat their ODM counterparts claiming the proposed vote of no confidence against the DP was being pushed by Raila.

Led by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, the lawmakers also alleged Raila intends to achieve his political agenda through the impeachment plan.

“We know Raila is salivating for this position.

We have information ODM’s agenda is to occupy Ruto’s position because Raila believes in getting into the government through the backdoor.

There is no any other way he understands to get power other than short cuts,” claimed Nyoro.

The legislators further accused the former prime minister of misusing his historic March 9, 2018, handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta to fight the DP.
