Lovers of hot beverages are at high risk of oesophagus cancer according to new research by doctors at Tenwek Mission Hospital, Bomet
The study which is set to appear in June 2019 issue of Cancer Epidemiology Journal established Kenyans in
Drinking hot beverages above 65°C causes oesophageal cancer. Interestingly, high rates of throat cancer have been recorded in Western Kenya.
The researchers had three sets of questions based on tea temperatures preferences among the 100 adult respondents who had accompanied patients at the mission health centre.
In 2016, International Agency for Research on Cancer found out there was correlation between cancer and hot tea above 65°C.
It however, noted the relative contribution of drinking very hot beverages on rates of oesophageal cancer is not currently known.
