A resident from Nakuru County but stays abroad donated a kidney dialysis machine in memory of his late mum but the County Government has rejected the machine terming it as second hand amid crisis in Molo Sub-County Hospital.

The machine which had been donated by Peter Mwangi who comes from Molo but stays in the United States was considered old and low quality.

Health Executive Zakayo Gichuki explained that the appliance could not be used to serve patients at the hospital.

“The county has its own budget and everything purchased should be of high quality and of the required standards.

“There was no way we could accept a low, reconditioned and second-hand dialysis unit in the name of the gift,” remarked Gichuki.

Gichuki noted that Mwangi should have first discussed the matter with the County Intergrated Development Plan before he purchased the device.

Mwangi highlighted that he shipped the machine with the aim of donating it to the hospital to help patients from his home town who would scramble for treatment at the Nakuru Level Five General Hospital.

He further remarked that the other motivation for getting the machine was in memory of his mother who had died after she suffered renal failure.

“My wife and I decided to buy and ship the equipment to Kenya and donate it to Molo Hospital so as to save lives.

“I lost my mother after she had sought medication for long but scarcity of dialysis machines in the county somehow compromised her life,” stated Mwangi.

According to the generous donor, the machine which was donated two months ago was now being stored at a friend’s house.
