Embakasi East MP Babu Owino avoided Museveni visit in the Country like a plague.

Earlier this year, the youthful MP threatened to stage demonstrations in Kampala if Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, is not released in one week.

Babu Owino (Embakasi East) and Gideon Keter (nominated) of the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association had threatened to stage a protest against the arrest and torture of Mr Wine at the Ugandan Embassy in Kenya before escalating it to the neighboring country.

“An injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere, we will not keep quiet while one of us is being subjected to inhuman treatment just across the border,” Mr Okelo had said.

“Our number one mandate as young MPs is to is to protect human rights. We are giving the Ugandan authority one week to unconditionally release Bobi Wine or else we will lead a delegation to Uganda and hold a mother of all protests on the streets of Kampala,” he was quoted saying.

His host President Uhuru Kenyatta and other dignitaries including Deputy President William Ruto and Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho received him at the Moi International Airport.

During the meeting at the State House, they discussed the best ways to address the quick movement of Ugandan cargo from the port of Mombasa.

President Museveni is also said to be keen on Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) extension from Naivasha Kisumu to Malaba and a link-up to his country.Statistics show that Uganda is the main Mombasa port user compared to other landlocked countries within the region.  “At least 70 per cent of cargo handled at the port is for Uganda. This shows Uganda is our biggest customer,”  Kenya Ports Authority official said.

Museveni further urged Uhuru to revive the Weuye paper factory.
