Gor Mahia fans can breathe a sigh of relief after the club was cleared to use Kasarani Stadium for the CAF Confederation Cup quarter final clash against RS Berkane on 7th April.

A communication from Sports Kenya, the body mandated to manage all national stadia has said that the match will go on as planned together with the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM )event .

“Sports Kenya has requested KAM to end the Expo on 6th April 2019 to allow the match to be played on 7th April.” Reads part of a statement sent to newsrooms.

The body has accused Gor of failing to inform them of the match until the last minute while KAM had booked the facility as early as last year.

“It should be noted that Gor Mahia failed to properly plan for this match by not making even a tentative booking that would have secured the date for their match.”

The much anticipated game had been thrown in limbo after the club received a communique that the stadium had been booked for an expo event.

Gor Mahia could not move the match to any other venue because Kasarani stadium is the only facility in the country cleared by football authorities to stage international matches.

An official from the Ministry of sports who did not want to be quoted had said that they would make more money from the expo than from Gor Mahia.

“As a matter of fact the funds we get from sports activities are not even enough to maintain this facility. Gor will only give us Sh45,000 on the day of the match but we can earn up to Sh1 million per day for a cultural of corporate event.”
