He received the award at a lavish ceremony in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. “I feel great. I can’t believe it,” the village teacher said as he mounted the podium. He had been chosen from among 10,000 nominations from 179 countries.

The Kenyan teacher won for his great heart, passion and sacrifice. He teaches mathematics and physics at the Keriko Secondary School near Nakuru in Kenya, in the Rift Valley, a very difficult area of ​​the country, often hit by drought, famine and precarious living conditions.

As reported by the Corriere, one boy out of three is an orphan, or poor and lives in poverty; other sores are drug addiction and early pregnancies. This is why Tabichi’s work is above all a mission.

Of the Franciscan order, Tabichi dedicates his life completely to the boys and devotes 80% of his salary to education.

It teaches children not only mathematics and physics, but also how to live and survive, helping them to learn alternative cultivation methods to try to defeat drought and preparing them for national prizes and, often, helped them to win. He has also created a “Peace Club” and organizes sports activities.
