Like a moving cloud the hunger situation is slowly increasing in many parts of the country and has ravaged all the affected areas. As the spell continues to spread, there is a possibility that it could find its way to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s home area of Gatundu.

Residents of Kariminu area have told a local vernacular TV station that they are staring at an imminent hunger after they failed to till and plant their farms for the last two consecutive planting seasons due to worries of relocation in order to pave way for construction of the proposed Kariminu II Dam.

“We are really worried that the Turkana hunger situation will soon be here with us unless something is done very fast. We have no food at all in the whole of this area because we have not farmed for two seasons always fearing that the relocation would happen sooner than later,” a resident who identified himself as Kimani said on Wednesday.

Another resident noted that though some residents had been compensated in order to look for alternative settlement elsewhere, it has only been done in parts.

“Some people have received their compensations but not in full amount. As a result, they have just been forced to stay and idle around as they wait for the remaining amount. This is what has brought us to where we are,” the resident said.

They now want the government to release their compensations immediately to enable them to relocate before the impending hunger strikes.

“If I had gotten my compensation, I would have left this place a long time ago because I have already found an alternative settlement. I do not know why the government is delaying us here and we have nothing to eat,” added another resident
