How airborne Kinoti sleuths landed to grill CS ‘hiding’ in Mombasa

As the Federal Bureau of Investigations say, You can run but you can never hide. And as the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti has it, time is of the essence.

Kinoti works on his own timelines.

Wednesday as President Kenyatta flew to meet revolutionary life-time Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, DCI Kinoti bundled his men on a plane and dispatched them with clear instructions.

Reports indicate that the detectives wanted to get additional statements from Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa into the probe of a multi-billion shilling tender awarded to an Italian firm to construct two dams.

This comes just one day after his Cabinet colleagues, Adan Mohamed, Peter Munya and Mwangi Kiunjuri, recorded statements at the DCI headquarters.

In February, some of the suppliers of goods and services to the Italian firm, CMC di Ravenna, had given a list of places where they delivered the said materials, including in Nairobi, Eldoret, and Mombasa.

Among the materials supplied were cutlery, tiles, towels, assorted alcoholic drinks, mattresses, and curtains, raising questions if they were also intended for the construction of Arror and Kimwarer dams in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Detectives handling the investigation disclosed that they were in their final stages of the probe and indicated that those being questioned were witnesses.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich has already been questioned four times by the DCI. Several suppliers of various goods and services, and top managers of the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) have also been grilled.

On Friday, former Attorney General Githu Muigai was grilled on his role in the saga where he told the officers his advise was ignored.
