From fake money to Human Trafficking: Why Ruiru is a very Dangerous Town

Ruiru is a small town in Kiambu County, less than one kilometer from the prestigious Kenyatta University.

Ruiru was ones a very beautiful place to raise a family in, especially for those working in the city. The Thika Superhighway, and the Eastern Bypass makes it possible to access JKIA and the city centre without a hassle.

But that’s long ago as the town has now become a hub of every type of crime.

On 27th February, DCI officers stumbled upon a huge cache of fake currencies, foreign and local, that were hidden in a residential house in the town.

On Thursday, detectives raided the county again and this time arrested human traffickers with 25 Burundian Girls.

The suspects namely Mercy Kaaia, Lydia Wairimu and Susan Nyambura Nganga were arrested by detectives from the Transnational Organized Crime unit as they attempted to smuggle 25 Burundians to Asia.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said on its twitter handle that detectives raided the home of Nicholas Mugambi Waigwa and rescued 25 females.

The victims, all aged between 24 years and 33 years, were being held hostage at the said home in Gwa-Kairu in Kiambu County pending transit to Asian countries.
