Peter Tabichi, a teacher who emerged the overall winner of Global Teacher Prize, has certain conditions he has to meet in order to get the full amount of sh100M he won as grand prize.
The foundation has set rules he needs to follow. According to the foundation, Tabichi will be receiving Sh10 million ($100,000) annual instalments over a period of 10 years.
During the 10-year period, the 36-year-old teacher will be required not to conduct himself in any way that will bring the teaching profession or any of the VF Parties into disrepute.
Tabichi will attend financial counselling sessions provided free-of-charge by the foundation to help him handle the vast sum of money.
For the next five years, the Physics and Mathematics teacher will also be required to continue teaching or provide educational support to students between the ages of 5 and 18 in a school setting unless he retires.
“The Prize will be paid in equal annual instalments of US$100,000 over a period of ten years, subject to any tar or other withholding required under applicable law. The winner must attend financial counselling sessions provided free-of-charge by VF,” the conditions read

“The winner must serve as Global Ambassador for VF. Serving as Global Ambassador for VF shall include but not be limited to attending events, speaking to the media, undertaking training and other commitments outside of working hours, on weekends and/or on holidays. VF will pay for and arrange all travel and accommodation,” says the foundation.
Tabichi has been using 80 per cent of his salary to help the needy pupils.
