Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has distanced himself from a statement about his 2022 presidential candidature allegedly issued by the Democratic Party (DP).

Kuria, who has expressed interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Wednesday claimed the office of DP Secretary-General had issued a statement indicating that he will vie on its party ticket.

In a post on his official social media accounts, the outspoken MP said although he was considering to vie on a DP ticket, he was yet to make an official application for membership.

Kuria asked the leadership of the retired President Mwai Kibaki-founded political outfit to relax and wait for his official announcement.

“I have noted with concern a statement about my candidature coming from the Secretary General of the Democratic Party. I have never declared which party I will vie on,” he stated.

The second-time legislator went ahead and stated; “I am interviewing various parties to assess which one is close to my vision and agenda for this nation. DP is on that shortlist. Let them relax. The process will take some time and they will be notified of the outcome through formal channels.”

Early this year, Kuria hinted at ditching Jubilee Party for DP and urged politicians from Mount Kenya region eyeing various seats in 2022 to join the 30-year-old party.

“To all my detractors out there, let us meet at the grassroots. DP is the party of the region,” he said in January.
