Manchester United fan favourite responds to PSG Interests

Man Utd fans will love Herrera’s reaction amidst PSG approach

Manchester United fans are happy with the reaction of their rumored wantaway midfielder Ander Herrera, as he remains keen to stay at club despite a stand-off with the club over a new deal. The Spain midfielder is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season, but talks have been going on since last summer and the club are so far refusing to meet his wage demands. Paris St-Germain are said to be monitoring Herrera’s situation and, conscious he would be available on a free transfer if no agreement is reached with United, view him as a relatively low-cost midfield option.

Herrera, who has become an integral figure under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, sees his future at United and is hopeful a breakthrough can be reached. The impasse in talks is a further example of how Alexis Sanchez’s huge £500,000-a-week deal has compromised the overall wage structure at Old Trafford and led to other players demanding inflated salaries.

United do not want to lose Herrera but, so far at least, have been reluctant to offer such a significant increase to a player who will be 30 in August. Juan Mata, who is 31 next month, is also a free agent in the summer and has refused to accept United’s offer of a one-year extension. Mata would like a longer deal primarily, and more money than is currently on the table.

United face a similarly pressing battle with a third Spaniard, goalkeeper David de Gea, who is seeking parity with Sanchez. United’s player of the season in four of the past five years and arguably the world’s best goalkeeper, De Gea wants to double his existing £240,000-a-week deal but the club have yet to bow to his wishes.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are reportedly planning on his potential replacement for the Spaniard. It was revealed that the Red Devils can sign their long-term target Toni Kroos from Real Madrid for just £50million this summer. The midfielder agreed to join the Reds from Bayern Munich in 2013, but Real Madrid hijacked the move and signed him in 2014.

SunSport exclusively revealed that United have been given a huge boost in their mission to sign the 29-year-old. Kroos has won the Champions League three times and the La Liga title since he joined for a fee of around £27m. He is under contract until 2022, but it is understood that he is keen to reignite his career elsewhere after a disastrous season.

The 91-cap Germany international has not scored and made just three assists in 21 games for Zinedine Zidane’s side. He has made no secret in the past about his desire to play in the Premier League despite turning down the chance to play for United five years ago.

Former Old Trafford boss David Moyes claimed he met Kroos and the deal was agreed for him to join them. But the midfielder changed his mind and decided to remain in Munich before he was snapped up by Madrid.

Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in Kroos and are reportedly lining up a £68m summer bid. The French champions would be able to offer the German star a 50 per cent increase on his salary next season. But Reds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already planning to axe three United stars in the summer to free up space on their wage bill.
