Former IEBC boss Betty sworn in as new national gender & equality commission secretary

As Kenya continues to grapple with controversial cases related to gender, the commission in charge is also finding suitable officials for their tough but passionate job.

Chief Justice David Maraga has presided over the swearing in of Betty Sungura Nyabuto as the new Secretary of the National Gender and Equality Commission at the supreme Court.

Maraga has wished her and the entire NGEC team well as they serve Kenyans.

After close to five years without a substantive Commission Secretary, the Commission finally recruited Ms. Betty Sungura Nyabuto to head the NGEC secretariat following a competitive recruitment process.

Previously, Betty Nyabuto had served as a deputy chief executive officer at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC.

The appointment of Ms. Sungura saw the immediate former acting CEO Mr. Sora Katelo resume his Director of Corporate Services post while Mr. Paul Kuria returned as the Director of Programmes and research.

Ms. Nyabuto has pledged to lead the secretariat in implementing programmes and building the capacity of staff to respond to the multi-dimensional aspects of the equality agenda.
