Juventus have reason to smile as CR7 is scheduled to return before Ajax fixture

Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up about the injury he sustained during Portugal’s clash with Serbia earlier this evening, stating that he isn’t worried about the recovery time.

“I’m not worried about this injury and I’m not afraid, I know my body well. I think I’ll be fine in a week or two,” he told journalists at the Da Luz Stadium.

The Juventus man was forced to leave the pitch after just 30 minutes, suffering from a muscle injury which initially looked bad. However, if Ronaldo is right, it’s certainly not as serious as first thought.

In any case, he could still be in doubt for the Bianconeri’s match against Ajax, which will be played in two weeks’ time. Should he miss that game, then it will certainly be a big blow for Juve, considering how important he was against Atletico Madrid.

A statement from Juve on Tuesday said: “Cristiano Ronaldo underwent tests in Portugal that revealed a minor injury to his right thigh flexors.

“He will be monitored and subjected to further tests to establish when he can return to competitive action.”

The Bianconeri face Empoli when the Serie A season resumes on Saturday, with games against Cagliari and AC Milan taking place in early April before a trip to Amsterdam to face Ajax beckons on April 10.

Other Injury concerns

Here is a roundup of the injury situation at the club as of now ahead of the first leg against Ajax in the Champions League.

Douglas Costa is still struggling with a thigh injury and will undergo new tests this week. The Brazilian could recover for the match against Ajax but at the moment, the chances are 50-50. Meanwhile, Cuadrado is out until late April/May but cannot feature for the Bianconeri as he was removed from the UCL list.

Khedira and De Sciglio have returned to training with the rest of the team, with the latter being ready to play against Empoli during the weekend, while the German is set to play against Cagliari or Milan and will be 100% ready for the Champions League clash.

Mattia Perin suffered an ankle injury on international duty but it seems to be a minor issue, with the goalkeeper set to be evaluated tomorrow by the team doctors.
