The National Assembly has been forced to delay its scheduled short recess at the end of March to give room for President Uhuru Kenyatta State Of The Nation Speech as well as allow for the vetting of Hilary Mutyambai for the position of Inspector-General of Police.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to make his state of the nation speech on 4th of April.

The National Assembly was expected to take a short recess from March 28th.

The vetting of Mutyambai is  scheduled for this week which means that  by the time the joint report is expected in the respective Houses – on April 2 – the MPs would have been on  recess and therefore unlikely to either approve or reject the nominee.

It is on this basis that the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi engaged the House Business Committee, to alter its parliamentary calendar.

The law provides that the vetting and approval by parliament of state officers be undertaken within 21 days.
