On Sunday 24 Deputy President William Ruto accused Opposition leader Raila Odinga of using the handshake to wreck the Jubilee Party from within.

The DP advised Raila to fo and fix the crambling opposition party before ‘lecturing’ the government on how to fight corruption and implement its mandate to the people.

He insisted that Odinga’s plans would not scuttle his presidential bid, saying that leaders who were mentioning his name in connection with corruption scandals were aiming at derailing his 2022 plans.

Ule mtu wa upinzani anajaribu kutulecture jinsi ya kuendesha serikali na vita dhidi ya ufisadi ilhali upinzani umesambaratika” (The opposition guy is trying to teach us how to run the government, he should fix the opposition first) Ruto said.

Ruto, who was speaking at the PCEA church in Mwiki on Sunday where he was accompanied by eight Jubilee MPs , said that a majority of leaders who were now lecturing the Jubilee government on corruption scandals had ulterior motives.

In what was an escalating war of words between the DP and the leader of opposition, Ruto said that he would not allow an outsider to bring problems in Jubilee or derail his 2022 presidential bid.

“These people were not with us when we were forming the government, we should not allow them to sneak in now that we have a government in place,” Ruto added.

Starehe MP Charles Njagua who was in attendance said it was better to do away with the handshake if it was the one causing so much trouble within the Jubilee party.

“If Jubilee will be destroyed by the handshake, we would rather do away with it and deliver our promise to the people first, the MP said.

Elsewhere in Kiambu County, a team of MPs led by nominated lawmaker Maina Kamanda, took a swipe at the Ruto faction insisting that it was disrespecting the president by politicking instead of working to deliver the government agenda to the people.

The Ruto allies also asked the president to respect his pact with Ruto insisting that it was time for Mt Kenya region to support Ruto in his quest to succeed Uhuru.
