A Tana River man is in deep trouble after he stole police Occurrence Book (OB) and call register at Bura Police Station in Tana River County.
When he walked into the Bura Police Station to make a complaint, Simon Nyaga found no officer manning the desk. In what police believe was a fit of self-righteous rage, Nyaga walked out with the OB and the cell register.
He then travelled about 50 kilometres to Hola Town, where he made his complaints, accusing police at Bura Police Station of being lazy and not on duty.
This act, however, landed Baya in hot soup, as the officers at the Hola Police Station were curious of the wild allegations he had made about their colleagues and the unmanned station.
While inquiring about possibility of Bura police post not being manned, it then emerged that Nyaga was the man who walked into the station and stole the missing items.
Baya appeared before Hola Principal Magistrate Alloys Ndege last Thursday and denied the charge. Ndege released him on a Sh40,000 bond with one surety of a similar amount after the prosecution did not object to him being granted bail.
Baya was charged with stealing ‘public stores’ namely an occurrence book and a cell register of Bura Police Station. The prosecution has lined up four witnesses, all of them police officers, for the case that will be mentioned on February 26, 2019.
