Members of Maendeleo Ya Wanawake group from Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties are now demanding for elections in order to have fresh leadership at the county and national levels.

Led by the organisation’s national first vice chairperson Eileen Kendagor, the women blamed the current leadership for the highhandedness and massive corruption that has led to loss of millions in their accounts.

“It is sad that the organization has never held an annual general meeting or elections for the last five years which is against our constitution,” she said.

Kendagor reiterated that the current leadership has failed to account for the contributions made by the women and other money collected from their investments.

“The organisation has become dormant with all activities geared towards empowering women at the grass root level going under since the current officials took over the leadership of the umbrella body six years ago,” she added.

The women spoke in Eldoret town on Saturday during a meeting attended by several women members of county assembly, women county executive officers, and members drawn from the two counties.

They called upon the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI ) George Kinoti to move with speed in launching investigations into alleged misuse of Sh 12 million monthly rental income from their offices at Maendeleo House in Nairobi.

The members have taken issue with embattled Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organisation National chairperson Rahab Mwikali and county chairpersons for running down the once vibrant women’s body.
