Residents at Nairobi’s Dandora estate woke up to a bizzare incident after a woman was arraigned in court for allegedly setting her 10-year-old son on fire.
The court heard that Grace Wairimu committed the offence on March 15 in Nairobi’s Dandora estate.
According to police, Wairimu arrived home drunk and started harassing her son. She is accused of dousing her son in paraffin and setting him ablaze in anger for failing to finish some house chores.
Police said Wairimu watched as the boy wailed in pain, prompting neighbours to intervene.
The boy was later rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital with burns in the face, chest and back.
Investigation officers sought more time to hold the accused as they seek more evidence, which the court agreed to. The matter will be mentioned on March 28, for plea taking.
