Suna East MP Junet Mohamed left MPs in stitches when he stated that former Sports CS Rashid Echesa passed the vetting with only a birth certificate.

Speaking during the approval of the nomination of former Nairobi University Vice Chancellor Prof Geroge Magoha on Wednesday, Junet said that there was no need to waste time taking the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) chairman through a rigorous process when one can use a certificate of birth to hold office.

“If Echesa went through here with just a birth certificate, we should spend very little time discussing Prof Magoha,” said Junet, leaving the parliamentarians in stitches.

He insisted that Magoha has what it takes to transform the education sector following the transfer of CS Amina Mohammed to the Sports docket.

The MPs on Wednesday approved the nomination of Magoha as Education CS, noting that he is the most qualified candidate for the position.

On his part, Echesa has maintained that he was fired unfairly. He has been urging President Uhuru Kenyatta to reveal why he decided to dismiss him from the cabinet.

The embattled CS has claimed his allegiance to Deputy President William Ruto cost him the seat and rubbished claims that he was linked to a money laundering scandal.
