Uhuru delivers powerful speech after receiving highest award in Namibia

Namibia Thursday honoured President Uhuru Kenyatta with the highest award he couldn’t even pronounce without a struggle.

President Kenyatta went ahead to deliver a rousing speech for Namibia’s 29th Independence Anniverssary Celebrations that advocated unity beyond the colonial borders separating African countries.

The award titled – the Grand Master of the Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis, was presented to him for his contribution to democracy and good governance.

“Borders must never be used as an excuse for us to retract back and forget the African spirit of Ubuntu. We remain stronger together,” he asserted.

The Kenya president was a chief guest at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek during celebrations to mark Namibia’s 29th Independence Day.

He went on to affirm Kenya’s close ties with Namibia, that stretched back to the days of the struggle for independence in which Kenyan forces formed part of the United Nations Transition Assistance Group (UNTAG).

“Our shared values and aspirations and our enduring strong historical bonds of brotherhood have continued to grow from strength to strength,” said President Kenyatta.

State visit

Uhuru is expected to meet several Kenyans who are living and working in Windhoek during his state visit.

The Kenyan president will be officially received at State House, Windhoek, on Friday by President Geingob.

President Uhuru made the trip in the company of his daughter – Ngina Kenyatta as well as several dignitaries namely: Amos Kimunya (Kipipiri MP), Mwangi Kiunjuri (CS Agriculture), James Macharia (CS Transport), Peter Munya (CS Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives) among others.
