President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Thursday, March 21, the man of the day when he was conferred with an award that feted his good leadership and a great contribution to democracy.
This is the second award celebrating Uhuru’s leadership within a period of four months. His handshake with Raila has been pointed out by political annalists as key in reshaping politics in Kenya.
Some Kenyans, however, feel the award was not well deserved and the president has a long way to go before he can qualify for it
The Grand Master of the Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis award was awarded to Uhuru in Namibia where he attended the country’s 29th independence anniversary.
Uhuru attended the event in the company on his daughter Ngina Kenyatta. He was given the award by his Namibian counterpart Hage Geingob.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta was today conferred Namibia’s highest award of honor, the Grand Master of the Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis, by his host President Hage Geingob for his contribution to democracy and good governance,” State House wrote on Facebook.
Uhuru and Geingob have in the recent past been building close diplomatic ties. During 2018 Mashujaa Day celebrations that were convened in Kakamega, the Namibian president graced the event as
Uhuru’s award comes four months after his leadership was celebrated by the African Union Commission (AUC).
The commission’s chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat awarded Uhuru for exceptional leadership and also for hosting the Blue Economy Summit.
