Kenya has been exposed to yet another shame as Kenya Prisions Service’ Women’s volleyball team is reportedly stranded in Cairo over deep financial trouble.

Reports indicate that the volleyball team is currently holed up at the Al-Albilla Hotel in Egypt’s capital over failure to pay bills, and therefore, the management of the facility has opted to confiscate the entire team’s passports.

The team is composed of 12 players, 2 technical bench members and an administrator, making them virtual prisoners.

To add salt on the wound, the players together with the technical bench have not received their allowances for the tournament.

The biggest question is, who is to blame for all the woes of our sports country men and women?

This problem has been in place for quite a long time despite the ministry of sports position being held by more than one person.

According to multiple sources, the five-time African champions, who are bankrolled by the Ministry of Interior under the Kenya Prisons Service docket, are struggling to pay bills for meals and accommodation at the hotel with an initial Sh300,000 deposit against the expected Sh1.1 million deemed deemed insufficient.

The ministry of sports has been on the spot for a time now as cases of improper funding of the team has been witnessed for different sports department.

In November last year, the nation witnessed the Amputee Football team pitch camp at the ministry of sports’ boardroom over unpaid dues after World Cup Champions.
