Six KWS rangers arraigned in court for killing herder

Six Kenya Wildlife Service Rangers have been arraigned in Malindi court for allegedly killing a herder in Tsavo east National park.

The six are said to have later dumped the herders body in the crocodile infested Galana River.

The six rangers appeared before Malindi Senior principal Magistrate Silvia Wewa but were not charged after prosecution recommended one to be charged with murder while the rest to be transferred to Garsen law courts to be charged for aiding their colleague.

The Rangers attached to KWS Tsavo East who include William Lopolian, Joseph Mbugua Njoroge, Duncan Gichuki Irungu,, Santos Opiyo , Diba Gonso Banchale and Mohamed Dube are accused of killing Lami Bocha on December 24 2018 at Huri area of Tsavo East national park.

The prosecution recommended murder charges against Njoroge who fired the killer shot while asked for the transfer of others to face a different charge of accessory after the fact at Garsen law courts. She said the five assisted in disposing the body of the herder after he was shot by Njoroge on the fateful day.

The deceased family is represented by lawyer Judy Thuku.
